Vector Optics Continental X8 2–16×50 ED SFP, model SCOM-45, is a daytime hunting riflescope with 2–16× magnification, a 50 mm objective lens, a 30 mm mounting tube and a VET-10 BDC reticle in the second focal plane (SFP). Its defining strengths are high light transmission, a generous field of view at low magnification and fine image detail at higher magnifications.
ED optical elements reduce coloured fringing around high-contrast objects, while specialised lens coatings minimise reflections and preserve natural colour rendition. The scope also features side parallax adjustment from 20 yards to infinity, constant 95 mm eye relief and precise 1/4 MOA click adjustments.
Extra-low dispersion glass helps limit chromatic aberration and improves the clarity of fine detail.
Schott HT, LaREE and VePRO FMC preserve contrast and brightness across changing light conditions.
At 2× the field of view is 20.5 m at 100 m; at 16× it is 2.56 m at 100 m.

SCOM-45 belongs to the premium Vector Optics Continental range. ED (Extra-low Dispersion) refers to low-dispersion optical elements that help reduce colour fringing at high-contrast edges. Schott HT and LaREE form part of its carefully selected optical system, while VePRO FMC describes fully multi-coated optical surfaces.
These technologies are combined for high transmission of available light, clearly defined outlines and natural colour reproduction. More than 93% light transmission is a key specification of the exact SCOM-45 model. The 50 mm objective complements the system in changing daylight and twilight conditions.
The 8× zoom factor means the maximum magnification is eight times the minimum. The 2–16× range is genuine optical magnification, not digital zoom.
VET-10 BDC is a glass-etched hunting reticle with prominent outer posts, a fine central crosshair, a small illuminated centre and reference marks beneath it. Its design combines clear visual orientation with finer references useful for controlled practice at a shooting range.
BDC (Bullet Drop Compensation) refers to holdover reference marks that can be related to the ballistic characteristics of a particular cartridge. They are not an automatic ballistic calculator and do not replace verifying the actual values.
The illuminated central point uses a CR2032 battery. The illumination dial has 11 settings, helping the centre remain distinguishable under changing light.
The reticle is positioned in the second focal plane (SFP). As magnification changes, the reticle appears to remain the same size to the eye, but the angular values represented by its marks change relative to the viewed scene.
Therefore, the manufacturer's BDC subtension values apply at 10×, not throughout the full 2–16× magnification range. Any relationship to a particular calibre, cartridge, muzzle velocity and distance should be checked under safe conditions at an authorised shooting range.
SCOM-45 is an SFP scope, not an FFP model, and does not contain an electronic rangefinder or ballistic computer. A useful feature of the SFP design is the reticle's consistently fine visible appearance when magnification is changed.
Side focus from 20 yards (approximately 18.3 m) to infinity allows image focus to be matched to different viewing distances. Proper adjustment helps manage image sharpness and parallax error.
1/4 MOA per click provides fine mechanical elevation and windage adjustment. The specified adjustment travel exceeds 110 MOA on each axis. The main turrets have protective caps, and the supplied package includes an additional elevation turret for personalisation.
Constant 95 mm eye relief contributes to comfortable observation throughout the zoom range when the riflescope is correctly mounted.
